Feeder Fishing Secrets Revealed In "Incredible" Underwater Film
Accompany Matt Godfrey, Adam Rooney, and Steve Ringer on their quest for enlightenment in natural water feeder fishing for Bream, Tench and other freshwater fish.
Our second Underwater filming adventure was a thrilling one. We journeyed to the iconic Ferry Meadows complex in Peterborough, brimming with excitement to uncover the secrets of feeder fishing for bream!
After the success of our first underwater filming in 2022, we were under pressure to pull it off for this next show. We pushed the limits by attempting feeder fishing for bream at one of the UK's most iconic waters – Ferry Meadows!
Having not had a go on the box the previous year, it was Matt Godfrey's turn to fish, with fellow underwater gang members Steve Ringer and Adam Rooney behind the screens in the tent.
Adapting to the ever-changing conditions at Ferry Meadows was a challenge. Just a week before the shoot, an algae bloom had clouded the waters, making it impossible to see on the underwater cameras.
However, lady luck shone down on us, and literally days before deploying the cameras, the lakes dropped clear, and we were presented with simply incredible conditions to film on the Overton Lake run by Peterborough and District AA; it was all systems go!
Our tactics for this adventure were diverse, with a multitude of elements to experiment with. The focus was on feeder fishing, allowing us to delve into various feeders and tactics.
For example, open-ended cage feeders, window feeders and Hybrid Feeders in various weights and sizes, with other kinds of bait in them, loaded in multiple ways, with different length hook lengths, and types of hooks, and hook baits! As you can see, the list of variables was endless for this one, and it made for an incredible show.
What made the fishing so enjoyable was that we had a lot of fish visiting the spot throughout. Like the first show, the boys were keen to tweak as much of their approach as possible to make their rigs and tactics as effective as possible.
Steve Ringer, "That's another example of something we won't show the public. That's incredible."
Some surprises also appeared, like some colossal tench entering the swim and big roach and perch…but would Matt catch them? The team scrutinised some rigs and theories they had used all their life, drastically changing hook lengths and rig mechanics.
Matt Godfrey, "What we learned was invaluable."
Better still, they were paid a visit by one of the most renowned rig technicians of all time and founder of Korda's Underwater filming – Danny Fairbrass! Danny was keen to give his thoughts on the match fishing rigs used, and what he suggested led to a deadly change to Steve Ringer's favourite rig of all time.
Throughout this show, the team tried a free-running feeder rig, the helicopter rig, and the renowned Hybrid Feeder in a fish-filled bonanza of changes, frustrations, highs, lows and banter that makes for one of the best fishing shows we have produced to date. Spanning across two one-hour-plus shows, whatever your tickle is in angling, this is simply unmissable footage you can't fail to learn from!
